Cole's World

About Cole’s World Cole’s World came about when Cole Hernandez was diagnosed with Leukemia in January 2019, at the age of 8. We noticed while he was hospitalized for 7 months straight that most kids were not as fortunate as Cole to have access to their favourite things – including iPads, personal bedding, toys, games, and a bedroom that was fully decorated to keep the positive momentum. Most of the parents had to make sacrifices and changes – which included leaving jobs and resulting in single-family incomes to ensure that support could be granted 24/7 for their sick children in the hospital. This is of course even more challenging for single parents or parents from other countries. In seeing all this in action, we – together with Cole – noticed that more could be done here and began talking about Cole’s World – an idea to help other kids and families. This charity would provide kids with a room away from home. They would get a full bedding set of their choice, a laptop or iPad, toys, video games, books, puzzles, a customized stuffed animal with their name on it and much more. The intent is to provide a completely decorated and personalized room – one that would take their minds off the painful and uncomfortable chemotherapy treatments and the side effects. We know firsthand and saw noticeable changes in Cole when we were able to provide him the extra special support. Two weeks before his passing we discussed Cole’s World and he wanted us to continue with this charity in his name. He wanted to help other kids. That is why it is important that we use Cole’s World as the name. [read more]

Hounds of York is owned and run by a group of people who love dogs. We didn't just invest in a business. We are trainers, dog nutritionists and behaviour specialists. And, most importantly, we are dog owners, having adopted, raised and cared for dozens of canine companions. Our business was built with them and for them. Opening in 2017, the primary goal of HoY was to become a neighbourhood resource for dog owners; a place to drop in for treats, cuddles and advice. Located across from the beautiful Victoria Memorial Square, HoY got its name from history. The area was originally known as Fort York, and today the Square still sits in the Fort York National Historic Site. Hence, our pack is the Hounds of York and the park is a valuable resource for the store, used for frequent walks and potty breaks for our daycare dogs. We believe that Filipino cuisine and culture deserves to be enjoyed by many non-Filipinos and Filipinos alike. It is about time! Our hope is to amplify “what is Filipino” and celebrate the unique diversity of regional and cultural influences found in our food, décor, lifestyle, hospitality and people. Authentic Filipino cuisine cooked the classical way is a blending of cooking methods and ingredients from Spain, China, America, Mexico, Indonesia, and South Asia found in our many recipes, while remaining unmistakably Filipino. Preserving and promoting our culinary tradition is important to me and is expressed in CASA manila’s signature recipes, family-style dining, and especially in our tribal Kamayan feasting. We are inspired by “Lola’s (grandmother’s)” cooking in a time and a place when she went to the market daily to carefully select her ingredients for its freshness. Very early in the morning, she prepared the dishes for the day: breakfast, lunch and dinner, all from scratch and freshly cooked for her family. In other words, the meals were prepared with love and care from recipes handed down from generation to generation. Our culinary philosophy is called “Nature to Nurture”. Simply put, the least we tamper with Mother Nature’s goodness, the more our food will nurture our bodies. We limit the use of MSG, salt, artificial flavoured powders, processed ingredients, and oil. Stumpsgone is a small company located in the northeast corner of the York Region. After years in the Invisible Fence business, we recognized the need for stump removal after navigating around peoples stumps to bury our fence wires along with the increasing number of stumps caused by the Asian Ash bore killing so many of our Ash Trees. Many Large tree companies are overwhelmed with actual tree removal it can be a burden for them to remove the stumps.
