Our local roots run deep: we began in Oshawa and Durham Region (servicing Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering) and have since grown to cover the entire GTA. That means fast response times for residents of Oshawa and neighboring cities. You can count on us for prompt quotes, on-time service, and polite, professional electricians who treat your home or business like our own. We live here too, so customer safety and satisfaction are our top priorities. In fact, we have earned a reputation as “one of the most trusted electric companies in the GTA”, with 250+ five-star reviews praising our quality and professionalism.
Whether you need new lights, wiring upgrades, panel maintenance, or an urgent repair, Powersource Electric has you covered. Below we outline our full range of services – for every residential, commercial, and industrial need. Read on to see how we can keep your home or facility safe and powered, 24/7.
Residential Electrical Services
Our residential electrical services are designed to keep your home fully powered, comfortable, and up to modern code. We handle everything from simple repairs to whole-house upgrades. Our certified electricians can install new wiring, replace outdated circuits, and upgrade your electrical panel so your home can handle today’s energy demands. If you’re remodeling, building an addition, or just need more outlets, our rewiring and installation services will ensure your home remains “sufficiently powered” and safe. We offer:
Wiring and Rewiring: Upgrade old wiring (including aluminum or knob-and-tube) to new copper wiring. This provides more circuits, better grounding, and meets the current Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
Electrical Panel Upgrades: Replace old panels or fuse boxes with modern 100A, 150A or 200A breaker panels. A new panel provides more space for circuits and advanced safety protections (like arc-fault breakers). It reduces fire risk and lets you safely run high-demand appliances (EV chargers, hot tubs, AC). We handle all permits and inspections for panel work.
Indoor Lighting Installation: Enhance any room with new light fixtures, pot lights, chandeliers or energy-efficient LED lighting. Proper lighting can completely change the look and feel of your home. We install and upgrade lighting systems that brighten kitchens, living rooms, offices with style and safety.
Outdoor Lighting Installation: Illuminate your yard, pathway or patio with professionally installed outdoor lighting. From security lights to landscape and deck lighting, quality outdoor illumination transforms your outdoor living space and enhances home security. We use weatherproof fixtures and wiring to withstand Ontario’s climate.
Bathroom Fan and Ventilation: We install exhaust fans and ventilation systems to prevent moisture buildup and mold growth in bathrooms. As noted by local safety guidelines, a proper fan “will discourage mould growth” and keep air flowing. Our experts ensure fans are vented correctly to the outside.
Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors: For your family’s safety, we install smoke alarms and CO detectors throughout the home. Smoke and CO alarms save lives, and recent Ontario regulations require working detectors on every level and near sleeping areas. We use devices with 10-year batteries and hardwired backup, and we place them per code (CO alarms near bedrooms and on each storey in homes with fuel appliances). We’ll also show you how to test them monthly and know when to replace them after 5–10 years.
EV Charger Installation: Power your electric vehicle at home with a dedicated charger. We install Level 2 EV charging stations on a separate 240V circuit, as required for safe operation. By law, EV charger installations need an ESA permit and must be done by a licensed electrician. We handle all the paperwork, panel load checks, and wiring so you get a compliant, reliable charging setup.
Our residential team also provides general troubleshooting and repairs: rewiring for renovations, fixing faulty switches or outlets, upgrading to GFCI outlets in kitchens and baths, and more. No job is too small. And of course, if you have an electrical emergency – like a power outage or sparking outlet – we offer 24/7 emergency response in Oshawa and surrounding areas.

Commercial Electrical Services
Powersource Electric’s commercial services keep businesses running smoothly. We work with offices, shops, restaurants, retail stores, multi-unit condos and more, providing safe, up-to-code installations and maintenance. Our licensed electricians handle:
Lighting and Power: Install or upgrade lighting systems (indoor and outdoor), outlet circuits, and power feeds for new equipment. We’ve worked in many offices and showrooms to ensure lighting supports productivity and appeal. For retail spaces, we can install track lighting and display wiring. For restaurants or shops, we handle kitchen exhaust outlets, display cases, and outdoor patio lights.
Network and Low-Voltage Cabling: Modern businesses need data and communications cabling (Ethernet, phone lines, security camera wiring). While we specialize in electrical work, our electricians can also install the necessary pathways or co-install network cabling in parallel.
Electrical Repairs & Maintenance: From changing ballasts in fluorescent fixtures to troubleshooting tripped circuits, we keep your business powered. We do safety inspections and preventative maintenance so you avoid downtime. If an outlet or breaker keeps tripping, or you need more circuits for a new copier or HVAC system, we diagnose and fix it.
Dedicated Circuits and Subpanels: Many commercial settings require dedicated circuits (e.g., for server rooms, signage, refrigeration). We add breaker panels or subpanels as needed to distribute power safely. We ensure all upgrades comply with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, so your building passes ESA inspection and meets insurance requirements.
Emergency Lighting & Exit Signs: We install and maintain emergency and exit lighting systems required in most commercial buildings. Properly wired emergency lights and illuminated exit signs help keep occupants safe during power failures or evacuations.
With years of experience in Durham Region and the GTA, our commercial electricians understand building and fire codes. We coordinate work to minimize business disruption and we will back that promise with responsive scheduling, clear estimates, and friendly service – ensuring owners and property managers get reliable, code-compliant electrical work.

Aluminum Wiring Replacement
Homes built from the 1960s to 1970s often used aluminum branch wiring. While the Ontario Code still permits aluminum wiring when done correctly, it is known to be a potential hazard if the connections degrade. The Electrical Safety Authority warns that improper connections or damaged insulation on aluminum wiring can cause fires. Many insurers will not cover homes with active aluminum wiring unless it is inspected and certified.
If your house has aluminum wiring, our licensed electricians will inspect and repair or replace it. We use connectors and devices rated for aluminum conductors, and you will receive an ESA Certificate of Acceptance for the work we have done. In some cases, it may be safest to rewire with modern copper; if so, we’ll discuss that with you. By hiring Powersource (a licensed electrical contractor), you ensure the job is done legally and safely.
Knob-and-Tube Wiring Replacement
Knob-and-tube (K&T) wiring was used in the early 1900s up to the 1940s. While technically still permitted if in excellent condition, modern homes rarely rely on it. The ESA notes insurers consider active K&T wiring a high fire risk, and many companies refuse insurance or will require all K&T to be removed.
If your home has any K&T wiring (common in older Oshawa and Toronto homes), we strongly recommend upgrading. Our team will perform a safety assessment: we check for brittle insulation, hidden splices, and overloaded circuits. In virtually all cases, we find it best to fully replace knob-and-tube wiring with new wiring and a new panel. This gives you modern 3-wire grounded circuits and peace of mind. We handle every step: cutting in new wiring, obtaining ESA permits, and arranging inspections.
As the ESA explains, knob-and-tube “is safe, provided it is properly maintained by a licensed electrical contractor.”. At Powersource Electric, our Licensed Electrical Contractor status means we can legally do this work in Ontario. After replacement, you’ll have an ESA Certificate of Acceptance confirming your home meets today’s safety standards.
Electrical Repairs, Wiring and Rewiring
Along with specialized upgrades, we perform general electrical repairs and installations of all kinds:
General Repairs: Broken outlets, flickering lights, tripping breakers – we fix those fast. We can troubleshoot grounding problems, replace faulty breakers, or rewire a damaged circuit. Our experience with residential and commercial systems means we can diagnose unusual electrical issues and repair them safely.
New Wiring Installations: Building an addition? Remodeling? We install new branch circuits for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, bedrooms or workshops. This includes 20A circuits for kitchens, dedicated circuits for stoves or dryers, and new light or fan circuits.
Rewiring During Renovations: Knob-and-tube, aluminum, fuse boxes – if you’re renovating an older house, we rewire rooms to current standards. We’ll help you plan for new outlets and lights, and ensure your wiring upgrades are done neatly behind walls.
Code Compliance: We keep up with Ontario’s electrical codes. Whenever we do wiring or panel work, we pull the necessary permits and schedule ESA inspections. This guarantees the work is inspected and approved.
By handling both large projects and small fixes, we offer a complete one-stop solution. Our goal is that after our work, “your property will have enough electricity running through it” – and a lot more safety.
Indoor & Outdoor Lighting Installation
Lighting plays a key role in comfort and safety, and we install all types:
Indoor Lighting: From renovating kitchens with new ceiling lights and under-cabinet LEDs to adding recessed (pot) lights in living rooms and hallways, we brighten your home. We also install ceiling fans with lights, bathroom exhaust fans with integrated lights, and stylish fixture replacements. Properly placed indoor lighting can “change the mood, look and feel of any room or space.”.
Outdoor Lighting: Extend your living space outdoors! We install security lights (motion and dusk-to-dawn), landscape lighting (pathway lights, spotlights), deck and patio lights, and garage floodlights. Quality outdoor lighting lets you enjoy your yard safely after dark and can deter intruders. We use outdoor-rated fixtures and conduit for durability.
All lighting installations are done by licensed electricians to code, with appropriate GFCI protection where required (e.g., outdoor outlets). We help homeowners choose energy-efficient options too, like LEDs or smart lighting, saving on electricity bills while providing top-notch illumination.
Bathroom Fan and Ventilation Installation
A properly installed bathroom fan prevents moisture buildup and mold. Building codes require exhaust fans for showers and tubs. Powersource Electric installs bathroom fans that vent to the outside, ensuring steam and humidity are removed from the home. As one homeowner resource notes, “a fan installed in your bathroom will discourage mould growth.”. We can also install energy-efficient LED bathroom fixtures, combined with fans, if desired. Our team ensures quiet, powerful fans that meet code (with timers or humidity sensors upon request).
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Installation
Smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms save lives, and installing them correctly is vital. Ontario now requires working smoke alarms on every storey of a home and in each bedroom, and – since Jan 1, 2026 – new rules require CO alarms near sleeping areas and on each level in homes with fuel-burning appliances. Powersource Electric will install and interconnect smoke detectors and CO alarms so they meet these codes.
Smoke Alarms: We install photoelectric smoke alarms (best for smoldering fires) in hallways near bedrooms and in all common areas. If your home has hardwired alarms (required in newer homes), we test them and can replace older units. (Remember: smoke alarms wear out – Ontario advises replacing alarms older than 10 years.) We also ensure alarms have battery backup.
CO Alarms: For homes with furnaces, gas appliances, fireplaces or attached garages, we install carbon monoxide alarms. By law, these must be installed adjacent to every sleeping area and on each level without sleeping areas. We place them per manufacturer instructions, and tie them into your system if possible (combination smoke/CO units are popular).
Maintenance Advice: We’ll teach you to test all alarms monthly and change batteries yearly. We emphasize replacing units that expire (CO alarms last ~7-10 years). Our goal is your family’s peace of mind – “installing detectors around a home can improve your peace of mind” – and compliance with fire safety regulations.
Hot Tub and Pool Wiring
Installing electrical wiring for hot tubs, spas or pools is a complex task with strict safety rules. Never attempt this as a DIY project. Our licensed electricians have the expertise to handle it safely and legally.
Dedicated 240V Circuit: Most permanent hot tubs require a 240V, 40–60 amp circuit dedicated solely to the spa heater and pump. We install a new breaker and copper feeder sized to the tub’s specs.
GFCI Protection: Ontario’s Electrical Code mandates Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection for all hot tub and pool circuits. We provide a GFCI breaker at the panel or a GFCI-protected disconnect box. These devices shut off power instantly if any imbalance (ground fault) is detected, preventing shock in the wet environment.
Disconnect Switch: Code requires a manual disconnect within sight of the hot tub (typically within 5 feet). This shutoff switch lets you kill power quickly in an emergency or for maintenance.
Bonding and Grounding: All metal parts – the tub shell, steps, ladder, even rebar in concrete or nearby metal objects – must be bonded together to the same electrical potential. We run bonding jumpers so there’s no voltage difference between these parts. This is crucial safety work.
Permits and Inspections: In Ontario, installing a hot tub is a major electrical project requiring an ESA notification/permit. We pull the permit before work starts, document everything, and schedule ESA inspections. Our customers always receive an ESA Certificate of Acceptance upon completion – a must-have for insurance.
Outdoor-Ready Installation: We use weatherproof conduit and fittings for any outdoor wiring. We adhere to local clearance requirements (for example, keeping a minimum distance from overhead lines and pools).
By the numbers, improper hot tub wiring accounts for a large percentage of spa-related incidents. Powersource Electric’s hot tub wiring process ensures everything is done right – from load calculations to final ESA inspection. When we finish, you get a fully operational spa with all safety systems in place, and the confidence of an ESA-approved installation.
Electric Vehicle Charger Installation
Electric vehicles are on the rise, and installing a home EV charger is something every modern homeowner should consider. Powersource Electric installs Level 2 EV charging stations throughout the GTA. Here’s what you need to know:
ESA Permit Required: All EV charger installations (even a simple 240V outlet) legally require filing an electrical permit (called a “notification of work”) with the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority. This creates a permanent record and triggers an inspection.
Licensed Contractor: By law, any electrician you hire must be a Licensed Electrical Contractor (LEC) in Ontario. Our company holds that licence and we are fully insured. We follow all safety practices (knowing the EV market’s demands on wiring and panels).
Panel Capacity: EV charging draws significant current. We assess your existing panel and service size to see if an upgrade is needed. If you’re close to capacity, we’ll upgrade to a 200A service or add a subpanel. We coordinate with the utility for any service upgrade if required.
Certified Equipment: We install chargers and breakers that carry Canadian certification marks. This ensures the equipment meets national safety standards.
Professional Installation: We run new wiring (typically 240V/30A or higher for Level 2), install the charger and a dedicated breaker, and ensure proper grounding. Finally, we provide you with the ESA Certificate of Acceptance once the work passes inspection.
Installing your EV charger with Powersource Electric means faster, safer charging at home and peace of mind (and it protects your warranty and insurance!). We’ll handle every detail so you can enjoy the convenience of home charging.

Electrical Panel Upgrades and Maintenance
The electrical panel (breaker box) is the heart of your electrical system. Upgrading it is often necessary for safety and future needs. Powersource Electric specializes in panel replacements and upgrades:
Why Upgrade? If your panel is old (fuse box or 60A-100A breaker) or you’re adding high-demand equipment (air conditioning, EV charger, workshop tools), your current panel may be overloaded. As new demands (EVs, home offices, etc.) strain old systems. An upgraded panel reduces fire risk and lets you add breakers safely. It also modernizes protection – for example, replacing fuses with breaker technology.
Signs You Need a New Panel: Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights when appliances turn on, hot/buzzing panel, or no space for new breakers – these all suggest a worn-out panel. Instead of dangerous makeshift fixes, we recommend a full replacement.
Code Compliance: All panel work must follow the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. We pull an ESA permit for every panel upgrade. After installing the new panel (often a 200A service with a 200-amp main breaker), we have it inspected and label every circuit. This ensures your system is fully compliant and inspector-approved. An ESA-approved upgrade also satisfies insurance requirements.
Professional Installation: Our process includes on-site load calculation, panel sizing, permit handling, installation, and testing. We replace the old panel safely (power off, remove old wiring carefully) and wire in the new one to current standards. Every panel upgrade comes with a Certificate of Acceptance from ESA, so you’ll have official documentation for your records.
In summary, upgrading your panel with Powersource Electric means improved safety and more electrical capacity. As one industry source states, an upgraded panel “significantly reduces the risk of electrical fires and wiring damage.” Don’t wait for problems – contact us to discuss a panel assessment if your system is outdated or under strain.
